Appletide LocalGuide privacy policy

LocalGuide creates step-by-step guides from browser workflows. This policy explains what the extension processes, where information is stored, and what is sent to Appletide or its service providers.

Information processed on the device

After you start recording on a website you authorize, LocalGuide processes supported clicks, form changes, submissions, navigation, visible element labels and locations, website origin and path, and screenshots of the visible tab. This information is used to create the guide you requested.

LocalGuide does not store values typed into text inputs, textareas, contenteditable fields, password fields, or similar controls. It creates generic instructions such as “Enter a value in Email address.” Common secret-bearing URL parameters and URL fragments are removed before a location is stored.

Screenshot privacy masks

LocalGuide permanently covers visible text inputs, textareas, contenteditable regions, and iframe content before a screenshot is written to extension storage. It also identifies additional common sensitive fields from element type, autocomplete metadata, accessible labels, names, and privacy markers. Checkbox, radio, selection, and button state may remain visible so the guide can explain the action. The original unmasked screenshot exists transiently in memory for processing and is not intentionally persisted. Other visible page content can still contain private information, so inspect every screenshot and add, resize, move, blur, or remove additional manual masks before sharing. Replace the screenshot if an automatic mask covered the wrong region.

Local storage and website access

Guides, processed screenshots, preferences, recording state, and entitlement state are stored locally in Chrome extension storage and IndexedDB. LocalGuide does not provide cloud guide storage, hosted guide links, or behavioral analytics in its initial release. It requests access only to a site you choose to record. If the workflow enters another site, recording pauses until you authorize it.

Exports, backups, and diagnostics

HTML, Markdown ZIP, rich-text, PDF-print, and backup files are created on your device only after you request them. You control where they are saved and shared. An optional diagnostic file can contain the extension and Chrome versions, platform, selected language, coarse session state, error codes, recent state transitions, storage totals, and at most the active domain. It excludes screenshots, page text, full URLs, selectors, typed values, license keys, and entitlement tokens, and is never sent automatically.

License activation and purchases

Activation sends a license key or entitlement token, the LocalGuide product identifier, and a random installation identifier over HTTPS to the Appletide license service. After activation, the extension stores an opaque entitlement token, status and validation dates, and the last four license-key characters, not the raw key. Creem acts as merchant of record and processes payment, billing, tax, receipt, fraud-check, and refund information under its policy. Appletide may receive purchase and transaction details needed for delivery and support but does not receive full card details.

Sharing, retention, and deletion

Appletide does not sell personal information, and LocalGuide does not send guide content to Appletide. Individual guides and unreferenced screenshots can be deleted in the library. Clearing extension data or uninstalling removes locally stored extension information from that Chrome profile; exported files remain where you saved them. License, transaction, and support records may be retained where needed for delivery, fraud prevention, accounting, tax, disputes, refunds, or legal obligations.

Security and contact

License requests use HTTPS, private Creem credentials remain on the server, and extension pages do not load remote executable code. No system can guarantee absolute security. LocalGuide is a general productivity product and is not directed to children under 13. Material changes will be posted with a new effective date.
